ABOUT OUR PRODUCTS
Our hammocks are authentically and equitably made in Latin America (Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, etc.) by craftsmen and according to our standards and specifications. A hammock from Latin America is synonymous with comfort, quality and durability.
The Maison du Hamac has been working for decades with the same suppliers and has forged close ties with the main players in the business. We only sell our exclusive brands without intermediaries and do not resell the hammocks of another retailer. Our accessories, they are developed and made to measure in Quebec. We are the only ones to offer you top quality accessories made right here, which in no way compare to the lower quality accessories sourced from Asia.
Our hammock accessories are also sourced from Latin America and from our Canadian suppliers.
The House of the hammock guarantees its products to 100% against all manufacturing defects and offers you a 1 year limited warranty, unless otherwise indicated, depending on the date of purchase.
YES! La Maison du Hamac aims to improve the living conditions of artisans and their community by respecting the following principles:
- Pay fair prices to craftsmen, develop long-term relationships and avoid intermediaries;
- Ensure that manufacturers always hire adult workers and provide them with a living wage;
- Ensure the implementation of safety directives in the workplace;
- Create job opportunities in Quebec and encourage local suppliers by buying hammock accessories.
There is a proverb that says, "I am not rich enough to buy cheap". If we buy cheap, we will have to replace the item quickly.
A low price is never a guarantee of quality, especially when it comes to trusting a hammock meant to support you and your family. An authentic hammock, just like a product protected by an appellation such as a fine wine, can not be done anywhere and anyhow; a Brazilian, Mexican or Colombian style hammock is always but an authentic hammock. These dubious quality imitations sold online are made in Asia to save money but often at the expense of quality of our hammocks. We are a store that has been established for more than a quarter of a century. By buying at La Maison du Hamac, you are sure to get a reasonably priced hammock with unsurpassed quality, advice and after-sales service
Our Brazilian and Colombian hammocks are made according to traditional patterns and the same goes for the colours are the same; all you need to do is chose your palette. Our Mexican hammocks (made of net and the fruit of a collective work) are handmade by artisans use inspitation as their only guide. Each hammock is a unique and an original work of art. At la Maison du Hamac , we try to classify the hammocks according to the dominant colors and themes. It should be noted that the hammock may have sequences of colors different from those shown in the photos. If in doubt, you can contact us to share your tastes and preferences. We will try to find you the hammock that would match the maximum possible colour choices.
Yes, this can be done for most of our woven hammocks. At La Maison du Hamac, you can also choose a hammock matching hammock chair of the same colours!
Without a doubt, a hammock made from natural fibers like cotton offers a comfort level much higher than other fabrics. However, hammocks made of synthetic fibers are more resistant to weight and weather wear.
The hammock with wooden bars is the result of a modification made to the traditional hammock. As some lay horizontally in a hammock, they thought to provide the hammock spreaders. This alters the balance of the hammock. However, this type of hammock is aesthetic and it dries faster. The hammocks without sticks are more comfortable with a perfect balance and are more suitable for families with children. We have a solution for those who want to live the best of both; removable sticks can be added to most of our woven hammocks. You will decide then according to what best caters to your needs or desires. A brilliant idea exclusive to La Maison du Hamac!
It is advisable not to leave the hammock outside. The hammock made of synthetic fibers can still be left outside longer. In any case, it is better to protect your hammock against direct sunlight, moisture and rot.
This depends on the category of hammock chosen. It can vary from 81 kg (180 lb) to 272 kg (600 lb). However, all our hammocks were tested with a weight load higher than what is indicated. Technical sheets accompany each hammock to help you.
No. All our woven or mesh hammocks have a perfect balance. Only hammocks with sticks at the ends, though comfortable and encompassing, may have a slightly higher tendency to “tip”. How should I maintain my hammock? Avoid prolonged exposure to sun or rain and keep it dry. In addition, a fabric protector can be applied to the hammock. Watch out for rodents and small animals. Consult our practical guide on this subject.
The metal frames are treated against bad weather. However, it is best to store them during the winter. To facilitate assembly and disassembly, we advise you to undo the stand at the end of the summer and to clean the outer surface of the parts with a cloth and a mild detergent and dry them. Avoid strong and abrasive cleaners. To preserve the finish, apply some car wax and rub with a chamois cloth. Lubricate the fitting parts with industrial lubricant spray and remove the excess with an absorbent cloth. Wooden sands require more maintenance. It is important to store them at the end of summer and to apply a waterproof stain for wood that not only enhances the wood's appearance, but also protects it from moisture and UV rays.
The logic of installing a hammock is based on two interrelated factors: the distance between the two anchor points and the height of these from the ground. To make it simpler, a hammock should show a slight curve. The lowest point, in the middle, should be at mid-thigh and both ends are anchored at equal height. For a hammock chair, the ideal installation should allow us to sit in the same way as on a chair, with the thighs and legs forming a 90-degree angle. With your hammock purchase, you will receive a leaflet with technical specifications and installation instructions.
Absolutely! Remember that originally, the hammock was made to serve as a bed. Even today, many people opt to trade in their bed for a hammock. It is a misconception that a hammock can lead to back aches or other discomfort; quite to the contrary, many people use them as a form of therapy. The trick to achieve this is to lie diagonally and not horizontally on the hammock. This way you will have a straight and ergonomic posture and your weight will be well distributed without fearing that the hammock will close on you. Hammocks without wooden bars are better for this purpose.
For a 1-seater hammock, allow at least 2.75 m (9 feet) between the two anchor points. A distance of 3.65 m (12 feet) and more will be ideal for intermediate hammocks or 2 seaters. The height of the loops varies from 1.22 to 1.83 m (4 to 6 feet). It is important that both anchor points are at the same height. In a small place, you can opt for a hammock chair. A minimum height of 1.82 m (6 feet) is required. It goes without saying that if the distance or the height are greater than the size of the hammock, one can use an extension.
For sure! For this you must ensure that the trees are mature enough. If you have reservations about fixing hooks in the trees, you can use a strap extension or solid rope of sufficient length. For more comfort, it is recommended to fix the loops of the hammock at the same height.
Yes, woven hammocks can be washed by hand or machine. Use a mild detergent without bleach and cold water. For machine washing, it is important to remove the loop lugs, tie the arms of the hammock with twine to prevent them from intertwining, and put it in a wash bag. Wash it separately and hang to dry.
As for hammocks in net, rope or integrated sticks, hand washing is the best solution. If your hammock is not too dirty, shaking the hammock well and wiping with a damp cloth over it will suffice.
Yes, at La Maison du Hamac, there are single seaters, double seaters, even family sized!
- How do we stretch in a hammock? Always sit in the hammock and then put your feet on it. We diagonally lie down, so the hammock stays open and our body is straight while distributing the weight evenly.

One should not jump, stand or kneel in a hammock.
This depends on the type and frequency of use as well as the means of installation, maintenance and storage. As rule of thumb , if properly maintained, our hammocks have a lifespan of up to 10 years. Some of our customers have even managed to keep their hammock even longer!
Our stands can last from 10 to 20 years without much maintenance. Metal frames require less maintenance than wooden ones.
The paint is an enamel powder (electrostatic) baked at high temperature. This procedure guarantees the weather resistance, aesthetics and service life of the substrate.
